Glide Connects Macs to Phones

By Michael Cohn

TransMedia is an innovative company that always seems to be ahead of the curve. Now it’s come up with a way to allow Mac users to access their files from a wide variety of phones. The New York-based company introduced two killer apps today: Glide Sync and Glide Mobile.

I talked to CEO Donald Leka today about what the new applications add to the existing ones TransMedia has already introduced as part of its Glide service.

The company already lets users store and share their files online, including digital music and photos. They can access their PC files from about 50 different phones, and run a web-based word processor, calendar, presentation software, and set of 75 photo-editing tools (see TransMedia Rolls out Glide Next).

The new applications will let Mac users access, edit, and share files from their computers on about 27 models of smart phones and devices including the Motorola RAZR and Q, Palm Treo, Samsung BlackJack, and T-Mobile Sidekick. Users can also sync up their files and Outlook calendars from their Windows-based office PCs with their Macs at home and reach them all through the different phones wherever they go.

“What we basically have done is created one file and information management system for all of your devices,” said Mr. Leka.
He said the company’s next steps would be to support Linux, and after that TV set-top boxes, and eventually cars. He hasn’t been getting much sleep lately either. No wonder.
