Updated "Mobile OS" Offers Apps for All Devices

By Calvin Clinchard

TransMedia's Glide OS has made some waves with its "mobile operating system," which offers Web-based productivity and fun applications comparable to Google's online apps. But with Glide OS 3.0, set to launch shortly after this issue goes to press [launch date May 28, 2008], TransMedia could make a far more noticeable splash in the Web 2.0 market.

The Glide Free Email Service, which debuted in December, gives something the big-dog Web email providers don't: email without ads. The service also lets users add other Web-based email accounts to the Glide Free account for one-spot access to all email; Glide runs a little slower than Gmail, but it's hard to beat this kind of all-access convenience.

The big deal about Glide OS 3.0, however, is not so much that it's ad-free (it is), but more in the range of devices it works with. In addition to desktop access on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems, the 3.0 version also offers access through devices running Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm OS, and Symbian OSes, as well as the iPhone and future devices sporting the upcoming Google-backed Android platform.

Another standout feature compared to similar browser-based programs is Glide's synchronization feature, which provides more flexibility for taking your work offline. Visit www.transmediacorp.com for details.
