Sync or swim in data or fly through the clouds
By INQUIRER staff:
SOFTWARE FIRM Transmedia will roll out synchronisation support for Linux later this month which will support all file formats including video, audio, contacts and the rest.
But that's just part of its cunning plan to sneak up on Google and the Vole. Last October, Intel offered support for the Glide operating system, but Donald Leka, its CEO and chairman, told the INQ this afternoon it has written a spreadsheet application in C/C++ which will live outside the browser and also support Linux, PC Windows and Macs. There's sync support for Blackberries, for Palm devices and other machines too.
Leka said that while Google appears to have a "light" approach to applications meaning the apps stop at the edge of the browser, the Transmedia Glide spreadsheet will sync will all devices with seamless compatibility and also offer full support for macros, pivot tools and other spreadsheet tools people expect.

He said that native and browser based Glide OS and app will bridge PCs, TVs and mobile handsets. The Glide spreadsheet calendar, address book, photo editor, music/video jukebox and CD ripper will be available in September of this year, and soon after that it will offer Glide Write and Glide Presenter. Microsoft might get very worried about this sort of tech.
